Nothing like zooming through 50-odd advice columns on a Sunday evening to put all your worries about life at ease. dear dolly is made up of snippets from dolly alderton's agony aunt column in the sunday times, so it’s the perfect, low-maintenance book that you can dip in and out of whenever you have 5 minutes.even the advice columns that weren’t relevant to me were engaging and insightful, and her moral perspectives and personal ethics very much aligned with my own. Although I didn't love Everything I Know About Love at the time I read it (and have already reached the conclusion that it was a matter of right book-wrong time), I really like Dolly's writing. You will not feel like this for ever, I promise, and what will be left is awe that you could love someone so much. I devoured this book, as I have all her books because her writing style really connects home for me. Without judgement, and with deep empathy informed by her own, much-chronicled adventures in love, friendship and dating, Dolly leads us by the hand through the various labyrinths of life, proving that a problem shared is truly a problem halved.

Furthermore, I really liked that the book covered several themes, namely friendship, relationships and family. While I was reading this book I felt like I was almost having a conversation with an older sister that I never had. If you're looking for some encouragement and advice with issues in your life, then this meaningful book just might hit the spot. She is a columnist for The Sunday Times Style and has also written for GQ, Red, Marie Claire and Grazia. This book is a collection of her newspaper columns from the UK newspaper The Sunday Times, so UK readers may have read these before. I wish this book was longer, and would have loved to read her thoughts on more specific and nuanced topics, since even topics that didn't directly relate to me in this book allowed for her to impart some universal wisdom; however I understand these were taken from her Sunday Times column and can only appeal to so niche an audience. some of the excerpts applied to me today, some will apply to me in the future, some maybe never but i enjoyed reading each piece so much. Reading this book is like having a chat with a knowledgable great friend, who can see things for what they are and name them in a really honest way.

In my opinion, it is a short (230 pages) and easy read, but very informative and accessible, in which we can identify with many of the doubts mentioned. Their questions range from the painfully – and sometimes hilariously – relatable to the occasionally bizarre. Her first book Everything I Know About Love became a top five Sunday Times bestseller in its first week of publication and won a National Book Award for Autobiography of the Year. Thank God for Dolly - I’m obsessed with her deeply empathetic, entirely shame-absolving and emotionally intelligent wisdom! While none of the questions selected for this book was really compatible with my life right now, I still found reading her replies empathetic and friendly. I thought this was Dolly talking about her love life and friendship but turns at to be about her Agony aunt work. She is also the author of two novels, Ghosts and Good Material , which were both instant Sunday Times bestsellers. Her first novel Ghosts was published in October 2020 and was also a top five Sunday Times Bestseller.Sent pictures of various pages to my friends and I know I’ll be referring back to it at times of need. Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall). Since early 2020, Dolly Alderton has been sharing her wisdom, warmth and wit with the countless people who have written in to her Dear Dolly agony aunt column in The Sunday Times Style . The book is relatively slim at just over 200 pages with pretty large print, which I find is standard for collected column type books. From 2017 to 2020, she co-hosted the weekly pop-culture and current affairs podcast The High Low alongside journalist Pandora Sykes.
