If you find your instructor’s fashion sense is feeling a bit stale, you can also change what they are wearing from their wardrobe. The main menu gives the choice of a Daily Workout or Free Training: the latter of these lets you choose which workout to do, its intensity level, which music you want to accompany you, how fast you want the music to play and which background you’d like as you work out. In the first game, instructor outfits were unlocked when you hit certain milestones, but some of these were frankly ridiculous: throwing a total of 198,000 punches to unlock a new top felt ever so slightly disproportionate. It did come to a surprise during my first proper workout that I needed to change my stance, though I wasn’t overly annoyed with it and felt I got enough instruction leading up to the stance change.

Pass a Joy-Con controller (or two*) to a workout partner to enjoy a 2-player boxing session lead by your in-game instructor. Initially announced on January 31st, 2020, Niantic announced it would begin testing new types of events during February 2020 – Pokémon Spotlight Hour and Mystery Bonus Hour. out of 10, saying that the game "just suffers from feeling inaccurate, even more so when punches and dodges aren’t correctly registered by the Joy-Cons [ sic]", but praised the game for being "perfect for those who want to lead a healthy and active lifestyle". Unfortunately, to the detriment of the experience, you're harshly reminded of the limits of the Switch joycons occasionally as sometimes form with the joycons supersedes realistic movement (at least in my non-boxing opinion).

You follow one of nine trainers as they take you through various workouts consisting of a variety of punches. For example, pre-workout, your instructor might warn you about a common mistake people make during this kind of exercise. I know I’m being very picky here, but it is rather annoying that there is no way to input the time on a keypad, rather you have to scroll through each time in fifteen-minute increments on each day you want to set the alarm. This time the game has a whole host of achievements for performing certain routines, hitting more manageable milestones and even things like customising your instructors or simply choosing them for the first time.

That doesn’t diminish its value, but I do think that it should serve more like a supplemental addition to getting you to exercise. The Reno Gazette-Journal gave Fitness Boxing a 6 out of 10, saying that "Fitness Boxing works great as a fitness app but not so much as a game. It didn’t really hit the mainstream, however, until Nintendo released Wii Fit alongside the Wii Fit Balance board in 2007. Work out at home and punch to the beatJab, uppercut, dodge, and more to catchy pop tunes in this rhythmic boxing game!Following along with moving your whole body gives you a full workout unlike any I’ve experienced in a game before. Fitness Boxing received "mixed or average" reviews from critics according to Metacritic with a score of 66 out of 100, based on reviews from 14 critics.
