At another point, one of the boys thinks to himself: “ If I were a girl, I bet I’d burst into tears… But as I’m a boy, I must just grin and bear it. Lucy-Ann Trent: Jack's little sister is the youngest of the foursome (about 11 at the beginning of the series) and also the most timid one. He'd developed scarlet fever during the school term and had missed a lot of school work, so he and a few others are staying at Mr Roy's (one of the teachers) to be crammed.

Anyway, as for the actual plot: When Jack and Lucy-Ann come to stay with Philip and Dinah at Craggy-Tops by the sea, Jack has it firmly in mind that he simply must go to the Isle of Gloom, a small island obscured by a haze of mist. Three of the children get locked up in a cave (Jack’s not caught only because he is following Kiki who flew away down a passage). He meets the children upon their very first adventure and makes regular appearances in the series from that point on.And then there's Bill Smugs, who first turns up in The Island of Adventure a mile and half along the beach, where he seems to be spending a little time camped out in an old shack beneath a cliff, with his boat moored a little way out. On the island they see men apparently working the old copper mines, and assume that Bill must be in league with them. The award was given by the Boys’ Club of America, though in America the book was titled Mystery Island.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. It is Jo-Jo who is in league with the men on the island, who are not mining copper but using the old mines as a place in which to make counterfeit money. Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and loved dogs, gardening and the countryside. The TV series also introduced a character who was not in the books- Sir George Houghton, Cunningham's rich, underworked boss, who appeared in every episode except "The Valley of Adventure". To be honest at first I kept expecting them to break into rude jokes like the Comic Strip Presents episodes.Lucy-Ann is so forward (compared to her book counterpart) that she says if Dinah can kiss you I don’t see why I can’t and kisses him too. Pen and pencil inscriptions to front pastedown and endpaper with heavier tanning to text block edges. The stories show the four children off on their own, discovering and solving mysteries without much adult assistance.

The Island of Adventure needs to be re-released, preferably a full HD remastered version, so that everyone can come to love the many colourful catchphrases from this fantastic film: "I hate mackerel pie", "She flew in through the window?Jack and Lucy-Ann are unable to go home as their uncle has broken his leg, so Philip invites them to come and stay with him and his sister Dinah at Craggy-Tops. Jo-Jo warns the boys that, from their tower room in Craggy-Tops, they can occasionally see the dangerous Isle of Gloom, though it is usually shrouded in fog and mist. They eventually find out that Bill is a member of the police force who has been detailed to keep an eye on Jo-Jo. Dinah first meets the Trents on the station platform, and is very surprised to see them (as is Jo-Jo) as Philip had kept their arrival a secret.
