Ruth’s second novel, Us Three, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller in hardback and paperback and has sold almost a quarter of a million copies. But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. This odd couple will go on three magical adventures to save books from people who have imprisoned, mistreated and betrayed them.

Like many chic lit books the characters learn all about love; but unlike a lot of books, they experience the bad parts of love as well as the good. The novel is set in Jones’s beloved Wales, and scattered with Welsh terms of endearment, which adds to the sensation of reading it wrapped in a comfort blanket. Seventeen-year-old Noel Crowe is idling in the unexpected sunshine when Christy makes his first entrance into Faha, bringing secrets for which he needs to atone. WENDY, their eldest, a cause for concern, soothes herself with drink after being widowed young, while VIOLET, lawyer-turned-stay-at-home-mother, is disturbed by the reappearance of a son placed for adoption fifteen years earlier. The characters in this one generally are likeable accept Alys making me warm to the writing of her even more. But now - just as Father Coffey proclaims the coming of the electricity - the rain clouds are lifting. Meanwhile Grace’s great-grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own. Told by a series of flashbacks the stories of Grace, Alys, Elin and Beca are revealed, together with a surprise twist at the end. Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins. It is a joy-filled, life-affirming, sob-inducing novel - with characters you'll come to know and love - from no.

The Times Crime Book of the MonthGuardian Best Crime and Thrillers----------'A warm, wise and witty warning never to underestimate the elderly' Val McDermid'I completely fell in love with it' Shari Lapena'This is properly brilliant. The reader gains knowledge of this family's background, including the harm and suffering that have been inflicted upon them. Noticed another reviewer mentioned she disliked the way RJ often leaves the endings off words, ie, "nothin" instead of "nothing and "somethin", not "something".Widowed in her thirties, left to bring up a teenage daughter, Alys, she ran a boarding house with her friends John, and his sister Cassie for years until Cassie and John's ill-health forced them to move to a home where she visits them every day. When I started the book, I wasn’t that sure about the characters as Grace is easy to understand and love, however, the same can’t be said for her granddaughter, beautifully portrayed as a Head Teacher, following in her grandfather’s footsteps, whereas her daughter hates school and the tension between the two is palpable.

Each character was realistic and I have fallen in love with Grace , she is such a strong woman and as a Welsh woman myself , I see a lot of my own grandmothers in her. A respected head teacher at the local school, Elin couldn't bear anyone to find out the truth about her mother. It is a joy-filled, life-affirming, sob-inducing novel – with characters you’ll come to know and love – from no. The reader is given windows into the thoughts and experience of each woman, but some of their secrets are only revealed later in the plot. Told from different points of view, this book is measured as it builds on all the past and present frustrations that all the characters have.
