Description

Ik las een tijdje geleden al ‘Dood op kasteel Brémont‘ van haar hand en had hier nogal wat op- en aanmerkingen op.

A promising debut for Longworth, who shows there’s more to France than Paris and more to mystery than Maigret. Death at the Château Bremont offers charming French locales, vivid characters and an intriguing who-done-it. But he has a cruel streak in him--playing his colleagues and graduate students off of one another; promising the positions to first one and then another; and then the cruelest move of all. If you’d like an intriguing mystery story peopled with unique characters, enhanced with descriptions of mouth watering edibles and lush pictures of the Italian and French country side Murder in the Rue Dumas is the book for you. The differences in the Catholic Church in France were also explored (or exploded) as part of the plot.Persoonlijk zal ik een vervolg niet oppakken, echter denk ik wel dat er genoeg mensen zijn die hiervan zullen smullen, vooral als je een beetje bekend bent met de Franse taal. This is the second novel in Longworth's detective series, but it is not necessary to have read the first to slip easily into the action of this one.

When Longworth debuted her charming mystery series featuring the crime-solving duo of Judge Antoine Verlaque and his on-again, off-again girlfriend, law professor Marine Bonnet, she won rave reviews. Longworth’s entertaining second mystery set in Aix-en-Provence (after 2011’s Death at the Château Bremont) plunges magistrate Antoine Verlaque and his law professor girlfriend, Marine Bonnet, into the world of academe following a murder. The main character is supposed to be a cultured upper class Frenchman, but all his references are English. Despite mysteries not being my favorite genre, I read this one right on the heels of the prequel to Luther. A promising debut for Longworth, who shows there's more to France than Paris and more to mystery than Maigret.Moutte was just about to name the recipient of an elite fellowship as well as his own successor-a highly coveted position-when his lips were sealed permanently. Lots of background that really does not help solve the case at all, but makes for nice reading and makes the people more human.
