Any hardcore Batman fan will have this book ruined for him the moment he witness the characters attitude and abuse.

This origin story also plants a few tasty seeds for readers to follow in other books: the Barbara/Grayson dynamic, Nightwing/Blüdhaven, and Jason Todd, which later leads into another major storyline that I won't spoil here.Besides that, if you've got access to a decent library of trades and back issues, you can follow Dick's journey from adolescense to manhood like he were a family friend who dressed up in tights and lost his family in a freak circus accident. I love Dick Grayson so it is absolutely no surprise that I would love a book that delves into his personal journey as he figures things out post-Robin. This leads to the realization he needs to find a place to "come home to" and, although he tries the circus, he turns instead to becoming a hero in his own right, comes back to Gotham and finds himself.

While Nightwing first appeared in The New Teen Titans during The Judas Contract story arc, Nightwing: Year One showed why he became Nightwing, and that’s very nice.Nonetheless, what Dixon does do a superlative job of is in portraying Dick Grayson as somebody who has reached a personal crossroads as far as living under the rules of his surrogate father and who possesses that natural mix of rebellion and ambition. While their time together was filled with memorable adventures, their commitment didn't match over time as Batman continuously bled for Gotham and Robin found himself splitting his time between the Caped Crusader and the Teen Titans.

The Nightwing: Year One storyline was published from March, 2005 to May, 2005 in the comic book series Nightwing. I read New Teen Titans before I read anything with Batgirl, so I always thought Starfire was Nightwing's unquestionable happily ever after, but Dixon's work on Nightwing and here (as well as some other great stories I've caught up on) make me wonder about his road not taken as well. Artwork was good and I really loved Dragon ball style character designs, all the characters has very cool and stylish design, specially Superman!Nightwing: Year One is a storyline written by Chuck Dixon and Scott Beatty, with art by Scott McDaniel. The story starts with the break between Batman and his sidekick, a result of Robin's conflicting responsibilities: to college; his supergroup, the Teen Titans; and Batman himself. Dick embarks on a trip to find himself, encountering Superman and Deadman, before teaming with Batgirl as the new Nightwing--while Batman meets a young Jason Todd stealing tires off the Batmobile. He is (along with artist Graham Nolan) the creator of the Batman villain Bane, the first permanent addition to the Dark Knight's rogues gallery in 40 years and for which he won 1993's Wizard Fan Award for best new character.

Overall a very good introduction to Nightwing and has left me wanting to see more of him, might have to get some Nightwing books after I’m done with Batman! A Death in the Family • A Lonely Place of Dying • Arkham Reborn • Bane of the Demon • Battle for the Cowl • Batman and Robin Must Die • Batman and Son • Batman R. He then begins a circulation of the city introducing himself to his old allies and enemies, even breaking into Jokers cell at Arkham just to wind him up (and then leaving the door open on his way out). I also enjoyed how it showed Dick moving on from his Robin identity and into a new chapter of his life as a crimefighter.Case in point, they find a smooth way to work in the post-Crisis explanation for why Dick chose the name Nightwing -- but even that reasoning has been tweaked in recent years due to changes to Krypton's mythology.
