I grew up with the mighty Tracy Beaker so this was a must read for me and I wasn’t disappointed at all. I'd say while I enjoyed it for the nostalgia, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed in parts, and like I've mentioned the series and book continuity, feeling since it was meant to follow the book rather than the original series made things a little confusing and incongrouous, like it shouldn't have been canon with the series but obviously was supposed to be. This book brought back so many amazing childhood memories of being curled up reading The Story of Tracy Beaker.

However, at least Tracy doesn't allow her boyfriends to mistreat Jess and Tracy always puts Jess first unlike some of the other characters' mothers in books such as "Secrets" and "The Bed and Breakfast Star". The cliffhangers at the end of each episode, the romance and the Justine/Tracy beef were all there in spades. In many ways I enjoyed this book for its realistic depiction of Tracy; she had a troubled childhood and is a troubled person, and so I can well believe that she's had trouble in school, keeping a job and relationships. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet.

But Tracy has a new boyfriend/fiance, who takes them to live in his mansion, and offers them the life that Tracy dreamed of as a kid. Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, and spent her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey, where she still lives today. Now Tracy Beaker is a mum, and this marvellous tale, narrated by her daughter Jess, introduces the spirited character to a new generation of readers. I was also surprised, but pleased, by the small scene between Tracy and Jess that implied depression. I found the middle of the book a little bit slow but with an ending I couldn't have imagined better.Until Sean Godfrey, Tracy’s rich boyfriend, whisks them away to his mansion, life of fast cars and celebrity stardom. Apparently there was also a show following an older Tracy, now working at the Dumping Ground (the childrens home she grew up in) but I don't think that aired in New Zealand. A fantastic new story featuring a much-loved old friend, this brilliant new book from Jacqueline Wilson is packed full of illustrations from Nick Sharratt throughout. Featuring some of your favourite characters - including Tracy Beaker, Floss from Candyfloss, Ruby and Garnet from Double Act!
