Description

But if you fancied staying in for your well-deserved tipple, or just wanted a crib sheet of whiskies to try for a later date, we’ve got you covered. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Light, Young, Waxy, Sweet and Fruity. A few Floral notes as well. The influence of the Peated Whisky cask Finish is rather limited. The Fruit Flavours are a bit Artificial like in Candies. Scapa Glansa arrives in a nice display box (not shown) which piques the interest of the consumer. There is just enough information on the box to keep that interest growing, and inside the box the whisky is held in a medium tall bottle with attractive labeling. The bottles are closed with high density cork stoppers which give me that nice satisfying ‘pop’ when I open them. In the Glass 8/10 Mouth: a thin delivery on diluted ashes. There’s some vanilla cake and subtle pepper, coated in a round creaminess. Apple and citrus. Then soft hints of roasted coffee beans, which are quite nice.

Whiskypedia. A Gazetteer of Scotch Whisky. Edinburgh: Birlinn. pp.320–321. ISBN 978-1-78027-401-0.The Scapa Glansa first matured in 1st fill American oak casks before being finished in casks that previously held peated whisky. The result is the first ever (lightly) peated whisky from Scapa. A delicious independantly bottled Scapa from Ian Macleod distillers under the Chieftains banner. Matured in Amontillado Sherry cask , number #550. One of 582 bottles worldwide. Nose: Vanilla with a little bit of an attitude. Somewhat dusty. With time it turns more sweet. Light notes of icing sugar, and hints of red berries. Really appealing. No hints of smoke really, but there's some chocolate and mild coffee notes here. Underneath all this is of curse a wonderful, dense whiff of bonfire smoke, filled with charcoal and sulphur. The whisky fades out during a finish which I found rather bland and uninteresting. There is nothing really wrong in the exit, but then again there is nothing really right about it either. The Afterburn 8/10

With that in mind, they have recently released their first peated expression, Scapa Glansa. The name comes from Old Norse for shining storm laden skies and captures the unique history of the isle of Orkney, with its Viking past as well as the stormy spirit inside the bottle. Only 200 bottles are available of this UK exclusive. Distilled at the Scapa distillery in 2005, the malt was allowed to mature for 15 years in a single first-fill bourbon barrel. Palate: Continued honey warmth and richness. Sparks of juicy pear and lemon peel. Touches of oak develop further on, bringing some balancing spice. Nose: some wet cardboard up front, as well as gravel and wet plaster. Then some meadow flowers come out, with citrus fruits, green apples and dusty malt. Hints of pine needles with crushed walnuts. Light mint. Overall it stays pretty green.
